Continued angel series

This series is inspired by the short story Hell is the absence of God by Ted Chiang. Angels don't bring good cheer. Destruction and accidents happen.
Years ago I went to Mexico. On the way there for an hour butterflies splashed acrosst the dashboard. It was trutly disugsting. But I never forgot about it.
I wanted to paint the angels for a long time but did not know how to dress them. I saw an old musical with Barbara Cook. In it the women wore hoop skirts. The outfits were really quaint and fun.
These are really small 12X12 paintings. I plan to paint thirty or so of them and group them together create something epic.

Zeus of the Grotto 1, 30X30, Acrylic on canvas

I learned about the meaning of the word grotesque. It is art in caves or similar that is scaring and gruesome. I am fascinated with the art of David Gilhooly who has food with leaves. I have chef boyardee noodles in a cave like backdrop with interwined leaf motifs.A God for me can be a scary concept. I think of this character like a manic Zeus.

Wild Child series

Growing up as a teenager, I always felt I wasn't the ideal Mormon. I wasn't smily or perky. I was an angry teenager who read too much Bukowski. Nevertheless I still was a good kid. To this day, I am a little rough around the edges. This series is inspired by the French film The Wild Child.
