Old Maids 2 30X30 Acrylic on canvas 2015

This is part of my old maid series. I am 32, mormon and single. But I feel young. I am holding a saw. Mormons have a children's song about popcorn trees. I am breaking with tradition and chopping down the trees.

The painting is about how I'm considered an old maid in the Mormon church. I am 32 still young, but there is that attitude. I am in old maid attire but I am with a chain saw. There is a children's song "Popcorn popping on the apricot tree." I am breaking with tradition and chopping down the popcorn tree. This is series. This is the first one.

The Golden Macaroni series

Golden macaroni was magical as a kid. It was also not beautiful for adults. Spirituality is kind of like golden macaroni. It really is beautiful but takes more than a first look.

I am,part of the show "Stitched Together at the Lab" at Luna Culture Lab (801 E Washington Street) in Phoenix. The show is August 7th 6PM-10PM.

NEDCO Mesa Arts Entrepreneurial Show, July 10th

I was fortunate to take the NEDCO art marketing class a couple months ago. I learned all about appealing to my customers as well as marketing my brand. The students from the class got to show their art at the show.

Spaghetti Tree series

In the middle are spirit babies. PBS did an april fools joke saying spaghetti came from trees.. People thought they were telling the truth.. For me spirituality is like spaghetti trees. Silly but also built on a kind of blind faith that isn't entirely real. I will have more pictures in the series.

I started this series painting silent film male clowns. I did a couple studies of them. But it wasn't working as the protagonist for the series. I was heading towards art class holding a painting. I heard a guy say "paint more females." It annoyed me, but it gave me a challenge. The whole Eye of God series was mostly male subjects in a spiritual journey. Women are the solitary subjects here. 

The girls are silly, they are like male women, think Freddy Munster with eyelashes.

I was inspired by the old painting Watson the Shark. A classical painting like Jacques Louis David with a shark coming out of it. They are two dissimilar elements. Mormons in the past were tarred and feathered. The snake is that reality. The front is spirituality that is green hills and sunsets
.

My collaborations wtih Anahid Ah

The paintings are of silent film clowns. I love silent film clowns because they are goofy and innocent. I painted them in the middle. Anahid Ah, an artist from Uruguay painted her figures around him. It turned out excellent and fun. I hope to do some collaborations from artists in the future. Always unpredictable!

I will be doing five pictures for this series. Will update this posts with future ones.
